Punctuated by five active volcanoes and blanketed by a vast plain known as the Tengger sand sea, much of this national park’s landscape is on the stark side. But venture deeper into the rainforests here and more verdant wonders await. Of course, this being a place of primordial attractions, these greener parts of the park reveal their own gargantuan sights, such as the cascades of water pouring down in our image. This torrent is a tall one: Madakaripura Waterfall is said to be the biggest waterfall in East Java.
